Doncaster fail to host 2013 Rugby League World Cup
I am little disappointed
THE Keepmoat Stadium will not be a host venue for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup it has been announced.
Confidence was high Doncaster’s bid to be a host town would be successful but it was not among the 18 venues announced by the Rugby Football League earlier today.
Two previous England international matches – against Wales and France – have been held at the Keepmoat which proved very popular.
The successful host towns and cities are spread across England, Wales, Ireland and France.
They include: Bristol’s Memorial Ground, Halifax’s Shay Stadium, Whitehaven’s Pow Beck Stadium, Hull’s KC Stadium and Craven Park, the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield, Leeds’ Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Rochdale’s Spotland Stadium, the City of Salford Stadium, St Helens’ Langtree Park, Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium and the DW Stadium and Leigh Sports Village in Wigan.
The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham has also been chosen along with venues in Limerick, Neath, Avignon and Perpignan.
Six futher cities have been selected for training camps.
The tournament will involve 14 nations and will be held in autumn 2013.
