Barnsley boss Robins has money to spend
http://www.thestar.co.uk/reds/Tykes-Barnsley-boss-Robins-has.6649271.jp
BARNSLEY owner Patrick Cryne has hinted that there could be a welcome cash kitty available for boss Mark Robins when the transfer window re-opens on the January 1.
Robins has worked prudently to strengthen his squad since he took charge at Oakwell.
And although star midfielder Adam Hammill could be a key target for Premier League clubs when the window re-opens, any funds would be welcomed by Robins as he conADVERTISEMENT
tinues to build his side up the Championship table.
The Reds have gone four games unbeaten, but Robins has revealed he would love to strengthen some more.
"Whether money will be available really depends on what's there," Cryne told The Star.
"In the past we've felt the pressure to do something to freshen things up because of our position.
"We've tended to be struggling at the wrong end of the division, but that's different this season because we're doing better and have found some consistency.
"We've got to ask ourselves the question: 'Do we want to genuinely disturb what we've got?' or 'Do we need to add one or two players?' I think we're always looking to strengthen.
"I'll be speaking to Mark and the club's directors to see if anything needs doing.
"Mark's done very well recruiting loan players, which has been great. Loan players don't commit you to long-term deals, so that helps because they can come in and do a job for the club and give the manager chance to have a better look at them. That (spell] could of course lead to a longer deal."
And Cryne has been "very impressed" with Birmingham City loan striker Garry O'Connor, one of a string of loan players who have all played important roles in recent weeks to get the Reds back on track after a disappointing October which yielded just four points from a possible 15.
In November that record improved considerably with the Reds having picked up an impressive ten points from a possible 15.
"Mark has used loans wisely, those players have really helped us," added Cryne.
"We're in a much better situation now than we've been in previous years. In the past we'd have to throw youngsters in and see if they sink or swim, but now we do have more options.
"But we'll have to see what happens come January and whether we need to bring anyone else in."
Meanwhile, the Reds didn't train again yesterday with Oakwell closed because of heavy snow making access to the ground dangerous.

Re: Barnsley boss Robins has money to spend
if all we paid was 400k for Shackell its the best 400k we have ever spent a snip at twice the price, and if he's the top paid player at the club its well deserved and so he should be, he'll be our player of the season this year without a doubt

I'd heard they paid a bit more, not to mention he's on at least as much as our highest paid player but to be fair he has stayed fit up til now anyway

Re: Barnsley boss Robins has money to spend
Every pre season PC lets the manager have one big singing and a few decent signings, then about 6 to 10 loan players through out the season,
This seasons big summer signing was Jason Shackell and like the two seasons before him Adam Hammill & Iain Hume (although he was out injured a long time he was starting to look a class act before the attempted murder) he looks to be worth the money PC as spent

Sour Grapes ?
Ha Ha couldnt care less for him,he didnt want to play for us so we dont want him.
Cant blame the lad for wanting a challange.
By all accouts we may not have got BIlly if we signed Shackell.
P.S : You cannot cover up the fact he is injury prone, just look at his record.

Re: Barnsley boss Robins has money to spend
Yes it is sour grapes and you have confirmed it with your further comments, Sean OD would jump at the chance to have signed him as he said in the pre season forum on radio sheffield,
Maybe is record suggests hes injury prone but his record in the season that counts is currently played every single minute of football that doesnt show hes injury prone this season now does it.
