Saturday 26 March 2011
npower League 2
Bradford City 1 (Adeyemi 67)
Shrewsbury Town 2 (Bradshaw 77, 87)
Kick Off: 3.00pm
at the Coral Windows Stadium

Attendance: 10,735 (352 visitors)

A late double from Shrewsbury Town substitute Tom Bradshaw ended City's three match unbeaten run and sent the Bantams tumbling to their first home defeat under Peter Jackson.

City were leading with less than 15 minutes remaining after Tom Adeyemi had capitalised on a poor attempted punch clear by Shrews 'keeper Ben Smith to rifle home from just inside the area.

But just like the two club's first meeting back on the opening day of the season, the Shrews overcame an Adeyemi opener to comeback and secure the points.

Sub Bradshaw had barely been on the pitch two minutes when he collected a flick on from a Shrews throw in before smashing past McLaughlin from a tight angle.

After chances for both sides in the final moments of the match, Bradshaw completed the visitors turnaround with less than three minutes of normal time left when he turned the ball home from close range following Jon Taylor's cross.

City's players protested for a supposed foul on David Syers by Taylor before he crossed the ball, but the goal was given.

--------------------------------------

FT: Bradford City 1 Shrewsbury Town 2

90+4min: Evans tries to go for a world-beating volley, but his effort goes well wide.

90+4min: Bradshaw nearly has an unlikely hat-trick when he nips in between McLaughlin and Hunt to knock the ball goalwards, but the defender gets back to clear off the line.

90min: 4 minutes to be added on at the end of this match.

89min: City need to response fast, but Evans' wayward first time effort from outside the area doesn't make Smith work.

87min: City players are protesting to referee Mr Quinn was Syers was tripped up by Taylor in the build up to the goal, but it stands and Shrewsbury have the lead.

87min: GOAL - Bradford City 1 Shrewsbury Town 2 - Heartbreak for City. Taylor's pace takes him away from Syers and Williams and he proceeds to put the ball across the area, where Bradshaw is waiting to fire into the roof of the net.

84min: This game is up for grabs at both ends now, with chances for either side. Ainsworth is the next player to go close as his angled drive inside the area pings into the side-netting.

82min: Dobie has a header cleared off the line! Hanson's flighted far post cross is out of the reach of Smith's grasp, but Dobie can watch as effort his headed off the line by Raven

80min: Smith spills Evans' long range blaster, but David Raven is on hand before Stephenson can pounce on the ball.

77min: GOAL - Bradford City 1 Shrewsbury Town 1 - The change seems to have worked for Shrewsbury as Bradshaw rifles in an equaliser from almost nothing. Taking the ball inside the area, Bradshaw shrugs off the attentions of City's defence before smashed an angled drive past McLaughlin at his near post.

75min: SUBS - Shrewsbury are making a double change to their side, with Wright and Collins being replaced by Lionel Ainsworth and Tom Bradshaw.

72min: McLaughlin is on hand to gather Harrold's mis-timed header at the far post following a Shrewsbury short corner.

67min: GOAL! Bradford City 1 Shrewsbury Town 0 - City take the lead through Adeyemi! Smith comes to punch clear a flighted Luke O'Brien free-kick, but his fist away only finds the City midfielder around the edge of the area and he proceeds to fire the ball back into the roof of the net!

64min: McLaughlin stoops to claw out Wright's close range header from a Shrewsbury corner - super stop!

62min: City are now looking quite promising in this second period and seem to be threatening Shrewsbury's goal a lot more than in the first period.

60min: SUB - Peter Jackson hands second year apprentice Darren Stephenson his big break as he brings the striker on for Speight.

59min: After picking up the ball from the half way line and being urged to shoot by the home crowd, Steve Williams eventually sends a shot well wide from around 30 yards.

55min: The second half has started with periods of pressure for both sides. Shrewsbury seemed to be on top at the very beginning of the half, but City are now coming back into it.

51min: YELLOW CARD - After earlier warnings, Davis is finally booked for pulling back Michael Flynn around 25 yards from goal. Nothing comes of the resulting free-kick.

46min: Barely seconds after the start of the second period, McLaughlin is forced into a full length save to tip David Davis' effort from just inside the area over bar.

46min: Shrewsbury restart the match.

Both sides remain unchanged.

HT: Bradford City 0 Shrewsbury Town 0 - The Bantams leave the field for the half time break still goalless with Shrewsbury. After an evenly-fought and largely uneventful opening to the half, Shrewsbury slowly began to place City under some periods of pressure in the first period.

Despite one or two scares though, City's makeshift back four have coped admirably so far with everything the visitors have thrown at them.

45min: 1 minute of injury time to be added on.

44min: A nicely timed run from Nicky Wroe sees the midfielder burst clear of the Bantams backline for a one on one situation with McLaughlin. Luckily for City, Wroe appears to slightly over run the ball and the Bantams' keeper is able to make himself large and block his effort.

42min: YELLOW CARD - Hanson is given a booking for a high arm on Ian Sharps.

41min: McLaughlin appears to drop Taylor's cross as he stretches up to claim the ball. Syers is on hand though to get rid.

40min: Shrewsbury are once again threatening to break through as the interval approaches. City's newly-assembled defence is still standing strong though

37min: Smith in the Shrews goal has to fling himself all the way over to his far post to keep out a wonderful top corner-bound 25 yard free kick from Evans.

35min: City have managed to cope with Shrewsbury's brief period of pressure and they still remain largely level-pegging with the Shrews. It must be said though, that out of the two sides, the visitors do look the more likely scorers as half time approaches.

29min: The visitors are really putting on the pressure now and David Syers has to be on hand to cut out Jon Taylor's dangerous cross-come-shot at the far post.

27min: The Bantams 'keeper redeems himself in style, however, when he makes a smart double save to deny the visitors. McLaughlin first save is to deny Matt Harrold at his near post. When the rebound falls to Wright though it looks a certain goal, but the City shot-stopper springs up to fling himself across goal and cling onto his effort from point blank range.

26min: City survive a brief scare in their area when Jon McLaughlin lets Mark Wright's low cross slip through his grasp. Luckily for City though, Jon Taylor at the far post mis-controls and can only run the ball out of play.

25min: Shrewsbury appear to have upped the ante a bit now as they enjoy a brief spell of pressure on the Bantams' goal.

23min: Hanson is involved again as he out-muscles Ian Sharps to a bouncing ball and drives into the area. His attempted cross is cut out by Smith though before Speight can attempt to get a boot on it.

22min: City enjoy the first real sight of goal as Hanson heads Gareth Evans' inswinging free-kick a few inches past Ben Smith's near post.

20min: It's now time for City to enjoy a small period of edging things as they continue to hold their own against the promotion hopefuls.

14min: Shrewsbury are just slightly on top at the moment having forced a few corners in these early exchanges, but both defences still remain firmly on top.

10min: The match still remains pretty even at present, with neither side creating a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity.

5min: It's been a steady, but uneventful, opening few minutes for both sides at the start of this match.

0min: The Bantams kick off the match

I don't think we're gonna do it this season, too consistantly inconsistant at the moment...

Think we need to give Jackson hs own fresh start, because in my opinion tactics wise he is a good manager!
Something though, just isn't clicking, whether it's that lack of determination or just the players not able to adjust to Peter Jackson's style of play fast enough, over time though, I can see things getting much better than they have been.
