The World according to the Football League Show

Sheffield Wednesday 0 Doncaster Rovers 2
(The video opens with two crests and the score shown on the screen for two seconds, the commentary starts)
“In an amazing plucky little performance by the former Conference side, they managed to sneak three points away from a hard battling Sheffield Wednesday side without any luck at the moment. From the off Wednesday were dominating the proceedings and the quality pairing of Tudgay and Varney, currently on loan from Derby County produced several chances which were scrabbled to safety by the away side. Wednesday must be wondering what it takes to score goals at the moment after their terrible luck against Nottingham Forest, and then the woodwork keeping them from the start they desperately needed to demolish the opposition last night. The midfield for Wednesday did look a little fraught at times but their calm approach allowed them to give the other team a chance to play a little football, surely a stronger approach would have brought about their undoing, but Wednesday were then hit by a fluke goal that nobody could quite believe. From good work by Simeck, which was luckily intercepted by a Rovers player, a deflection brought about when a Wednesday defender lunged at a poor cross lifted the ball over the centre half, this then came to the loan player from Coventry, who was hit by the ball while falling over. The most surprised man on the field to see it sneek over the line must have been the loanee, who must now be eyeing his chances of getting another chance with Coventry when he returns. With a few minutes to the half time whistle Wednesday once again launched an attack down the wings that was brought about by desperate defending, flying tackles, and more lucky interventions. Half time came with Wednesday one nil down with more work to do to bring justification for their dominance.
In the second half Wednesday began brightly again, driving forward with long raking balls putting pressure on the opposition central defence, who appeared to be coping, with difficulty, as the Wednesday attack drove forward to try and equalise. Another piece of luck then undid the chances that Wednesday had created. From an unusual ball from the by line a scramble ensued in the Wednesday goal mouth which resulted in the ball bouncing unluckily for James O Connor in the Wednesday defence hitting him on the shin for an own goal. Two nil down now, despite the efforts of the magnificent Wednesday midfield the former amateur defence of the away team managed to hold on to their narrow lead and frustrate the battling Wednesday side to hold on to their narrow lead. When the whistle went the Owls fans must have been cursing their luck once again which leaves this once mighty team languishing at the wrong end of the table. No doubt with their saviour Alan Irvine Wednesday will once again regain their form and with luck be back where they belong, challenging for top honours in the Premiership. Doncaster will be glad that they have another three points in their battle to avoid relegation this season.”
(Back to the studio where Manish grins inanely at Steve Claridge)
The game will be summed up on video in a ten second slot which will be shown on The Late Kick Off in Yorkshire on Monday, meanwhile here we have extended highlights of the 0-0 draw with Newcastle taking on another lower league club, tanatalising football! This will be followed by the 0-1 loss by Leeds United in their drive to go back up to the big time this season. So Steve, what do you think Wednesday have to do to get a bit more luck? Does Varney have to play closer to Tudgay to achieve better penetration of defences, or would you introduce Johnson when he is fit?
It would be nice to know who it was that beat Sheffield Wednesday wouldn’t it?!!!!!!
