MAYWEATHER OUTCLASSES MOSLEY

Floyd Mayweather Jr produced a Las Vegas masterclass to easily outpoint Shane Mosley in their superfight at the MGM Grand on Saturday night.

'Money' improved his perfect record to 41-0 but more importantly cemented his ring legacy with a career-defining performance against a fully-fledged welterweight star.

Mayweather was rocked by two huge Mosley rights in a wild second round, but that apart was the boss all night with a spellbinding display of speed and ring artistry.

So often in the past Floyd has fought defence first, content to pick his way to a decision.

But this time he took control early and dominated all night to win by scores of 119-109 twice and 118-110.

Indeed his control was so great that Mosley's trainer Naazim Richardson had to think hard about pulling his man out in the closing rounds.

Coming in, many experts had this as the biggest test of Mayweather's career with Mosley's mix of size, speed and power expected to provide a potent threat.

But Floyd established control early, showing a surprising willingness to go on the front foot and open up in the first.

But the second brought a defining moment in his Hall Of Fame career - the first time he's really been in trouble.

Twice he dropped his guard to attack and twice was tagged by huge Mosley rights. The second time he appeared to be genuinely hurt and momentarily on wobbly legs. But he made it to the bell.

This was the moment the 38-year-old Mosley needed to close the show, but instead Mayweather quickly tore up that script to recover brilliantly.

Almost immediately he regained his composure and the upper hand with blazing hand speed and superbly accurate punching.

That trademark straight right could hardly miss and uppercuts, hooks and body shots also landed frequently as Mosley was systematically broken down.

By halfway 'Sugar' Shane was already looking weary as Mayweather continued to dominate, and a stoppage appeared there for the taking.

But Floyd was content to prolong the night for an MGM Grand crowd that could only gasp at his brilliance at times.

By the end of round 10 Richardson was telling Mosley he might have to stop it, so one-sided were proceedings.

But with Mayweather happy to close out a lop-sided points victory Shane was able at least to hear the final bell.

Now thoughts will again turn to the fight the whole of boxing wants to see - a mega match between Mayweather and reigning P4P king Manny Pacquiao. If they can agree on drug-testing procedures.
