BRADFORD CITY 2-1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST !!! 0,,10266~6033769,00

Tuesday 10 August 2010
Carling Cup 1st Round
Bradford City 2 (Syers 57, Hanson 100)
Nottingham Forest 1 (Thornhill 36)
Kick Off: 7.45pm
at the Coral Windows Stadium

Attendance: 5175 (676 visitors)

Peter Taylor's brilliant Bantams produced a superb battling display to knock out the Championship side Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup 1st round.

James Hanson's goal in the first period of extra time proved to be the winner to help City claim the scalp of the four time League Cup winners and produce one of the shocks of the round in the process.

City had to battle back from a goal down to clinch this memorable victory after Matt Thornhill's goal had placed Forest into a half time lead.

Taylor made three changes during that interval break and one of those subs, David Syers, helped get City back in the match.

Syers, who only signed non-contract terms with the club to enable him to play the match, pulled City level in the second period when he tapped home from barely two yards out.

The Bantams had to battle past some late Forest pressure, but the scores still remained level into extra time, before Hanson's late match-winner.

-----------------------------

FT: Bradford City 2 Nottingham Forest 1

It's all Forest now as City try to hang on.

117min: McLaughlin makes a low save from Blackstock's snap shot inside the penalty box.

116min: Adebola heads wide from McCleary's cross.

114min: Tyson fires over from just inside the penalty area.

As you may expect, Forest are now pressing and forcing the Bantams back.

111min: McLaughlin makes a brilliant reflex save to keep out Cohen's stinging drive after a Forest corner is only half cleared.

110min: Speight's neat turn gives him the space for a shot just inside the area, but Camp gets down to save in time.

106min: The Bantams start the second period of extra time.

105min: Bradford City 2 Nottingham Forest 1 HT of Extra time.

104min: City are awarded another free kick around Forest's penalty area. Again Ramsden blasts the effort goalwards and the ball deflects up into the air. Syers out jumps Camp and wins the hanging ball first, but his header is just wide.

100min: Forest respond to Hanson's goal by bringing on midfielder and normal captain Paul McKenna for Lynch.

100min: GOAL! Bradford City 2 Nottingham Forest 1. In extra time, the Bantams take the lead! From the resulting free-kick, Ramsden blasts for goal. The ball riochets around the area until finding Hanson, who taps in at the far post.

99min: YELLOW CARD - Joel Lynch is booked for hauling down Speight on the edge of his own penalty area.

97min: Thornhill fires wide of McLaughlin's far post from a similar distance out.

93min: Tyson fires over from the edge of the area.

91min: Extra time at Valley Parade gets underway.

FT: Bradford City 1 Nottingham Forest 1 - EXTRA TIME TO BE PLAYED.

An entertaining second period has left the Bantams back in the match and the tie going to extra time. City had to withstand some pressure towards the end of the match, but will now fancy their chances as the match enters over time.

90 + 4min: Hanson heads over from a late, late Ramsden free kick.

90 +3 min: McLaughlin is at full stretch to tip away Chris Cohen's low drive.

90min: 4 minutes to be added on at the end of the match.

89min: McLaughlin is out bravely to smother Blackstock's effort after the striker had been slipped in behind the Bantams defence.

85min: After some treatment, McLaughlin still looks in some discomfort, but he is able to carry on.

84min: There's a worrying sight for City fans as McLaughlin goes down and is forced to receive treatment from physio Damien Buck for a hip injury.

Helped by the introduction of Adebola and Blackstock, Forest are now putting the Bantams under some pressure.

80min: From the resulting free-kick, Adebola heads wide from close range while under pressure from Williams.

80min: YELLOW CARD - Williams is booked for a late tackle on Tyson.

76min: McCleary's rasping shot is blocked away from close range by Ramsden.

75min: A long range tester from Moult is well held by Camp at the first attempt.

72min: SUBS: striker Dexter Blackstock is brought onto replace McGugan as Davies looks to aim a bit more firepower to his Forest side.

Former Bantams loanee Dele Adebola is also brought on for Anderson

71min: Speight cut insides from the Bantams left wing and fires narrowly wide of Camp's near post.

The tie is evenly poised at present with both sides engineered small openings.

64min: Anderson's drive fizzes wide of goal from just inside the area.

City's players and the crowd are right back into this match after Syers equaliser.

57min: GOAL! Bradford City 1 Nottingham Forest 1 - City equalise through the unlikely source of Syers. The midfielder, who only signed non-contract forms yesterday, is on hand to tap home after Speight's initial shot had been blocked.

54min: CHANCE. Forest waste a promising opportunity to double their lead. Tyson beats Williams into a foot race for the McGugan's long pass into the area. Tyson checks inside of Williams and aims for the bottom corner, but his effort flies just wide of the far post.

50min: McLaughlin comfortably holds Tyson well struck effort from just inside the area.

48min: YELLOW CARD - Garath McCleary is booked for a foul on Hanson.

47min: Despite the alterations, City have to be grateful to McLaughlin after the keeper makes a smart reflex save to keep out McGugan's powerfully struck angled drive at the far post.

SUBS: There have been big changes for the Bantams during the interval. Peter Taylor has used all three substitutions as David Syers, James Hanson and Simon Ramsden take the place of Scott Neilson, Lee Bullock and Omar Daley.

The Bantams have switched to 4-3-3 as a result.

46min: Forest start the second period.

HT: Bradford City 0 Nottingham Forest 1 - The Bantams go in for the half time break trailing by a single goal after a battling display against the Championship opponents. Nottingham Forest have improved as the first period progressed and looked the stronger of the two sides as the half drew to a close.

45min: 1 minute of extra time to be added at the end of the first half.

45min: Moult's long range efforts just slides past Lee Camp's far post.

40min: Moussi fires a fierce half volley over the bar from the edge of the area after the ball had sat up nicely for the Forest midfielder.

36min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Nottingham Forest 1 - The visitors take the lead of the tie with half time coming up on the horizon. A long hanging cross from Paul Anderson finds Thornhill at the far post. The youngster controls the cross and beats McLaughlin with a low angled drive into the far corner from around eight yards out.

34min: Steve Williams heads over from Luke O'Brien's inswinging free-kick.

The visitors have started to impose themselves more and more on this tie as it has progressed. They now seem to be the more dominant of the two sides at present. City are still holding strong though and trying to match their Championship opponents.

26min: CHANCE. Forest squander a great opportunity to take the lead of the match. McGugan's clever pass splits City's defence and plays Nathan Tyson in on goal with only McLaughlin to beat. The Bantams keeper is out quickly though, and gets just enough on the ball to knock Tyson's effort around the post.

22min: Omar Daley picks up Louis Moult's pass and cuts inside onto his right foot, only for him to hit an angled shot well wide off target from just outside the penalty box.

After the first 20 minutes of the match, the tie remains evenly poised.

16min: After Tommy Doherty's free kick is only half cleared, Duff manages to pump the ball back into the penalty box with a thrusting header. The ball falls to Jake Speight in a promising position, but his shot on the turn is blocked over Wes Morgan.

13min: Lewis McGugan's cross is deflected into the path of Matt Thornhill, who is lurking at the edge of the Bantams area. His resulting half volley is crisply struck, but whistles just past the post.

City have started the match is positive fashion and are more than holding their own during the early stages of this tie.

2min: Guy Moussi fires in the first attempt of the match, but his wayward volley from just outside the area doesn't trouble Jon McLaughlin at all.

0min: The Bantams kick off their 2010/2011 Carling Cup campaign.

The Bantams, who are sporting their 1911 style retro cup shirts, and Nottingham Forest enter onto the Valley Parade pitch.
