..... to reintroduce wing halves and inside forwards. Now I can hear you young pups saying "what the hell is he on about" but back in the 60's yes gaslight and wooden rattles, we played with a goalie, two fullbacks, three half backs and five forwards. I know I was there and played. When defending the centre half dropped back between the fullbacks and the wing halves tucked in forming a "W" formation. The inside forwards dropped also to pick up unmarked opponents. Wingers stayed out wide and rarely dropped back and neither did the centre forward.
The play makers were the inside forwards and to some extent the wing halves. Ah memories, where's my cocoa.

Memories maybe but that style worked for decades and provided great , watchable footy.
