Contract talks set to start.. Empty Contract talks set to start..

MORE than half of Rovers’ current squad are set to discover whether they have a future at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Dean Saunders has told the board which out of contract players he would like to stay - and began talks with his players this week.

Full back Mustapha Dumbuya is thought to be in line for a new contract offer.

Midfielder Simon Gillett, a virtual ever-present under Saunders, has also stated he would like to stay and help Doncaster return to the Championship.

Saunders’ hands, however, are currently tied when it comes to offering new deals.

Rovers’ boss admitted last week that the wages of the players still under contract are “miles over” his playing budget for 2012/13.

Players still under contract for 2012/13: Gary Woods, Neil Sullivan, James O’Connor, Tommy Spurr, George Friend, Shelton Martis, James Husband, James Coppinger, Kyle Bennett, Brian Stock, Martin Woods, Chris Brown, Habib Beye (subject to release clause).

Players out of contract this summer: James Hayter, Mustapha Dumbuya, John Oster, Adam Lockwood, Sam Hird, Simon Gillett, Oscar Radford, Rachid Bouhenna, Giles Barnes, James Baxendale, Paul Keegan, James Chambers, El Hadji Diouf, Pascal Chimbonda, Habib Bamogo, Mamadou Bagayoko.

Loans expired: Fabien Robert, Damien Plessis.

From the list of players out of contract, I would like to see the following retained:

Mustapha Dumbuya - still improving and will be good in Div 1
Sam Hird - see above
Simon Gillett - most consistent player last season
Oscar Radford - If only to see him play
Rachid Bouhenna - see above
Giles Barnes - most improved - think he will depart
James Baxendale - young and has ability to improve
Paul Keegan - if he proves himself fit

All subject to agreeing sensible contracts on sensible wages.

Would also like to retain Fabien Robert - again if on sensible wage

BTW Lee Bowyer anyone...........?

Bowyer on Free

Would probably be out of our wage bracket - but you never know.

I like keep Mustapha Dumbuya, Sam Hird and James Baxendale. I think James Hayter will go to Bournemouth and maybe James O'Connor too.

I don't think it's particularly dirty tricks Vicar. JR didn't force anyone into buying a season ticket as far as I'm aware. I think most people would realise that if we got relegated we would be operating on a greatly reduced budget - I don't think any club in a similar position would do any differently.
