Hello and welcome to THE PRIDE OF YORKSHIRE.

This forum was set up on the 5th of September 2009 in order to give Yorkshire football fans a place to come and interact with fellow fans of all 10 league clubs in our county.

We operate a controlled environment, with each team having their own forum and moderator, to ensure everyone has equal rights. The main reason this forum was set up, was to allow its members the freedom to express themselves without the restraints some other 'multi-club' forums adopt.

However, abuse of other members will not be tolerated. Please keep discussions civil. If you are not prepared to behave appropiately, please don't register. Friendly banter between rival clubs is encouraged, personal abuse towards other members will result in a permanent ban.

THANK YOU for visiting THE PRIDE OF YORKSHIRE and we hope to see you posting here in the future.

King Richard 3............. Empty King Richard 3.............

Post by hoolahoop Wed 6 Feb - 2:36:57

Come on folks this is massive news and has shown how history and science can work wonders.
Should our fella who loved this great County of ours so much be buried in the Minster at York following the protocol of that era rather than the fact he was found nearer to Leicester cathedral with which he seems to have no or little links at all (apart from the fact he was killed nearby and paraded there).
Despite all that's been levelled at him and since in the main been found totally ridiculous or at best unproven , this man loved this county and spent most of his time here prior to being made king of England.
What do you think................?

Everything points to him wanting to be buried at York, there was some comment on the news at lunchtime that part of the deal to allow the excavation to go ahead was that if it was proved to be Richard he must remain in Leicester,
So never mind what they want, what about what he acording to legend/fact wanted

Sorry about my tone on the VSC Daggers but this is an important discovery but most folk nowadays seem to have little regard for history (and science in this case)..........that's why the friggin country and everything that's made it great can be dismantled without a murmur. Bit by bit .
Btw modern laws say that a body of this nature has to be buried in the nearest cathedral/church apparently. So on that basis if the Queen drops dead in Edlington presumably she would be buried in Wakefield/Sheffield cathedral whatever her wishes and/or intentions look as though they might have been.
York is the obvious place and keeps him close to a son he loved and buried here as well as his wife. It's a commonly held view that his intention was to have a mausoleum in York hence the reason that they were given fortunes to prepare the place.
So what do we do instead , yes we bury him at a multi-cultural service in a low status church of England cathedral amongst foreigners. Just to rub it in , it happens to be the place where he was treacherously betrayed and publicly humiliated. Karma I don't think so. Sad

Over 9000 signatures on this petition at the last glance. I still don't get the raison-d'etre for choosing Leicester . Their argument is that they've paid for it (untrue most of the money came from Ricardians) and that their University did all the research (again untrue as experts both nationally and internationally have given their time and expertise).
However I see little chance of over-turning this as possession is 9/10ths of the law and commitments made without first consulting folk and looking at alternatives.
It seems to me that the conversation may have gone along these lines '' it's our car park and inconvenience and we're doing nowt unless we can keep him to enhance the status of our crappy cathedral and city'' and of course the ministry involved readily and sheepishly agreed. Mad
