Boro v Barnsley Empty Boro v Barnsley

Not a bad game considering the conditions.
Thought Boro could have been 3 or 4 up in first half.Keeper saved 1 with his legs,Mcdonald should have passed to Franks instead of shhoting and Oniel should have blasted rather than place a shot at the keeper. Also Franks header reight on half time if placed another foot across goal may have gone in.
Barnsley played some decent football as they always do and kept plugging away in the second half. They had two glorious chances with free headers 6 yards out especially one in the dying minutes.
Couple of Boro players were struggling after the 60 mins, killen got a couple of knocks, mad dog and Mcdonald just back from injury and need games to get fitness levels up.Robson seemed a yard slow in first half but improved as game went on.Willo the Wisp battled the entire game even though he got a nast knock in 2nd half. Young Franksy filled the Johnson role quite well and had defenders beaten for pace, pity he couldnt hit a cross.
Big Mick marshalled the back line and helped young Groundsey(Thornaby lad) through the game with his instructions.naughton had a decent debut and made a few telling runs in the 1st half.
Barnsley fans made a bit of noise but the way the stadium is built its hard to pick up on songs from anyone, home or away. Thought that there would have been a few more travellers.

How many Dingles made the trip do you think ?
I also heard on our local radio that Barnsley were all over you like a rash in the 2nd. half, it sounds as if those 1st. half opportunities could have cost you dear on another day!

looked about 6 or 700 going by numbers that other teams have been bringing.
The block they had only holds about 800.
They did attack a lot late on especially after they scored but we could have punished them on the break if we had fit players up front.

Poor Dingles turnout , perhaps it was the Annual Clog Championships or some other erstwhile occupation that kept them at home eh ?
We took more than that to Leicester after a run of 4 defeats!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

The Boro away figures are only for tickets sold through our ticket offices and dont count any pay at the gate fans of which there have been quite a few at some games.

Our away proportionate to our home support sometimes staggers me , many I know are very selective about 'home ' games but try to get to every 'away' game. They say that they get more out ofthe 'awayday' match experience and I must agree I love being in the away crowd. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Poor turnout? That was quite good imo for a tuesday night, not really fair to compare us with Rovers when we went on a tuesday night and they didn't. Wink

Boro fan base isnt as big as people think. Potentially it could be bigger but there is a lot of open space around the area as well as all of the industry sites. We only have about 14k season ticket hoders now compared to the 25k in the prem 3 seasons back.
A lot of away travellers actually live away from Boro and dont go to home games or prefer away to home.

yeah n also , we dont really have many fans that dont come from the teesside area.
Once you get south of middlesbrough , a lot of ppl follow leeds - and north of stockton seems to attract a lot of sunderland supporters.
Those who live in darlo (but dont support em) seem to be newcastle fans.
