Re: D Day for Billy
That doesn't look good, however the players mentioned are those out of contract. BS still has a year to run and they still need to sell ST's, I would have been surprised if he had of been mentioned in this Release List quite frankly...........don't lose hope yet.

Its the mirror Pete so don't believe anything you read, they have been telling us that Labour have been the best Government we have ever had and we all know that was a load of shite, the first clue is in the fee 600K i very much doubt it, i think Beckford may yet decide to stay where he is and Billy likes to be the big fish he would not be that at Leeds, personally i still think it will be us or the Blades...

The Sun, it must be true then...they will all get the rumours from the same sources, its just stuff to fill up the back pages, if it happens it happens, i tend to listen to rumours i like and disregard any i don't like, and this is the latter..

Not quite league 2 wages Pete but I get your drift. However , if it does happen, then we will have to take it on the chin as always,
Better that than an Admin. deduction for over-spending, we can't whinge when we don't yet fill our ground (stripping us of much needed revenue) whilst playing some of the best footy in the country most of the time.
We have to MARKET and market fast to get that extra revenue, the ground needs to be filled week in week out.........then we can attempt to compete!!

If it happens it happens Pete, yes it would piss me off if he signed for Leeds but until it happens we still have a chance, as for the paying league 2 wages well i think we pay a bit more then that but lets face it we only have to look around us to see Cardiff , Preston , Palace , Hull , and i could go on, they are all in the shit big style becauce they pay excessive wages, some of these players are going to take a reality check, lets face it 6 or 7K a weeks not that bad, if Billy does not sign for us then Sod will be already looking elsewhere there are other irons in the fire...but it would be nice if we had a signing soon..

Don't bet on it we are always slow starters, that's where the bargains can be had!

Re: D Day for Billy
Doncaster Rovers are keeping a close interest in the future of Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp, despite reports that a number of other clubs, including Derby County, are also monitoring the situation. Sharp had a highly successful season on loan at Rovers last season, and Rovers fans are eager to see him turn out for the club again next season. Sharp is now into the last year of his Sheffield United contract, and the Blades face the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer next summer if the situation is not resolved.
They have been holding out to recoup the £2 million they paid Scunthorpe United, but that is likely to fall as his value falls due to the contract situation.
Sean O'Driscoll told the Doncaster Star: "Billy is a Sheffield United player so it would be churlish for me to comment on what might happen. "The people we have spoken to about Billy have said that they are having meetings to try and find a way forward. Whatever happens will happen."
O'Driscoll, who has at least half of his squad out of contract this summer, is aware that most of the remainder have only a further twelve months left on their deals. He said: "We've got a lot of players in the last year of their contract and if we want to keep them we'll have to do something."

Re: D Day for Billy
OK - as for signing League 2 wages I think we're paying a bit more thsan £1,500 a week
I thought there was a chance Billy might sign for us at one point, now I'm not sure but as much as I admire him I don't want us to put the club at risk to sign him - he could break a leg in the first game and leave us paying £11K a week or more for 18 months for a player who can't play
If Billy signs for Derby or Leeds and the Donny fans boo him on return I'll have something to say - he played a big role this season but its not a role anyone else couldn't have played
Billy's goal average over 3 seasons inc ours is 28 goals, thats less than 10 goals per season. There is no proven guarantee he'd score more at another club If we were looking to pay £600,000+ plus £12K+ a week for a player who averages less than 10 goals people would laugh. I'd take a risk on Billy but I'm not sure it makes sense on paper
