Anybody know the answer
Probably one for Hoola
In olden days when you could take a car apart with 3 spanners and 2 screwdrivers we were always told that starting or stopping and restarting an engine used more petrol (on the initial startup) if you get my drift.
So how come on my new van and some cars it uses this stop/start buisness, ie when you pull up at a set of lights you put the handbrake on knock it out of gear the engine stops untill you dip the clutch and then it restarts the engine, or is it purely an emission thing and they don't give a stuff that it costs a bit more, or doesn't it use more fuel nowadays

The van (the firms) a new vw caddy its got all sorts of gizmo's on it cruise control, this stop/start crap, even at night when you've got your headlights on when you put an indicator on and start to turn the ruddy foglight on the side your turning to comes on and shines that way.
