Next season
The current season may be not quite over yet, but the Football League have released some important dates for football fans to put into their diaries.
The fixture lists themselves will be released on June 17th, whilst the season starts on Saturday, 6th August. The Championship will have its final weekend of fixtures on April 28/29th - a week earlier than usual due to Euro 2012, whilst Leagues One and Two finish a week later.
The Championship play-off final is scheduled to be played at Wembley on Saturday, 19th May (let's be optimisitc here!).
The first round of the Carlile Cup will be played on 9/10th August, with the second round being on 23rd/24th August.
In the Christmas/New Year period, games will be scheduled for Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and January 2nd.
The actual make-up of the Championship for next season is taking shape, although the ongoing farce regarding any penalty QPR may face looks destined to go on into next week. Presuming they do get promoted, those certain to be playing in the Championship next season will be:
Millwall, Burnley, Hull City, Leicester City, Watford, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Bristol City, Coventry City, Barnsley, Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton.
One of Cardiff City, Swansea City, Reading, Nottingham Forest and possibly Leeds United can win promotion via the play-offs, with the other four destined for another year in the Championship.
Definitely promoted from League One will be Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton, with Huddersfield Town, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Bournemouth competing in the play-offs.
The tricky bit is working out which clubs could be relegated from the Premier League. It will be three from an incredible eleven clubs - so coming to the Keepmoat Stadium next season could be three from: West Ham United, Wolves, Wigan Athletic, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Stoke City, West Brom, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle United.
Promoted to the Premier League are QPR and Norwich City, whilst relegated to League One are Preston North End, Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United.
