Re: Richard Wood
It's a shame he's going, his popularity was back on the rise again with Wednesdayites after a few months of watching Darren Purse! However, I couldn't see him wanting to stay after being overlooked for the captaincy, so at very least he'll be going for nothing in the summer unfortunately.

Re: Richard Wood
He thinks he's bigger than Wednesday, he wants more money than we can afford and he knows that. He's already had one transfer request turned down so today's news just confirms that he doesn't want to be here.
It's disappointing because he's a great player, but I certainly don't want players who don't want to play for us.
I'd settle for £1.5million

Correct. There are a lot of 'fans' on Owlstalk (particularly those with an agenda against Laws) who are blaming the manager for this over his decision to overlook Wood for the captaincy in favour of Darren Purse. What short memories they have. Richard Wood valued the Sheffield Wednesday captaincy so much that once he had it, he asked for a move to Coventry. Fooking Coventry! That's the reason that he was overlooked this season, and that's the reason the club are right to try and move him on. Like I said in my original post, it's a shame that it's come to this, but he clearly doesn't want to be here, so it's a no brainer.

Re: Richard Wood
A Wednesday friend told me that Lee Strafford has posted a rant on Facebook about it, saying Wednesday offered Richard Wood a contract which 'represented double the current value of his contract' which usually translates as 'We offered him a rubbish basic wage and tried to sweeten the deal with add ons, clauses etc.'
It is strange though that a player like Jeffers can get a nice healthy pay out and a home grown talent gets turned away and forced out of the club. It's a very sad state of affairs.

He has hardly been forced out of the club, we simply can't afford the money he is demanding. We signed Jeffers after selling players so we had some money, now we don't have any and he knows it.
I've been trying to work out how much he's trying to get out of us, and we as fans believe Jeffers is on about 9k. Therefore for Wood to be "comfortably the highest paid player at the club", he must have been trying to get about 12k a week which is stupid money for a club in our position.
Wood doesn't want to be here so we are right to try and get rid.

Exactly. The 'negotiations', if they can be called that, indicate that Wood wants to move on. As far as Wednesday are concerned, cashing in now is the only sensible option.

Re: Richard Wood
notts county a big club? they do not have the fan base plus when they last played in the top flight in 91-92 season they struggled to average above the 10,000 mark.once they start splashing the cash they will end up with a massive debt that will ultimately be their downfall if they start trying to compete with much bigger clubs than themselves.NOTTS COUNTY have not been or never will be a big club despite the millions that will be recklessly poured into the club.and as for you east yorks rover i would be more concerned about the thousands of donny folk that wear the white shirt of leeds united than red and white of donny rovers instead of coming on our messageboard.East Yorks Rover wrote:I hear he is going to a big club..........Notts County. Re: Richard Wood
I haven't mentioned anything of the sort superowl, I believe your Chairman has been searching out a similar deal for the Wendies as Notts. County have, I presume you are going to be leading the campaign to stop him? It is dodgy money that has come into Notts County, anybody who is not open has to be suspicious, but that is what makes a club big or small at the moment, and that makes most of the S.Yorks. clubs about the same.

He'd love it at Notts County. All the money he could ever wish for, and he'll be playing alongside Graeme Lee again. Perfect.

Re: Richard Wood
Wednesday defender snubs Reds for London side
It is understood transfer listed Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood has turned down a move to Barnsley and is set to move to promotion chasing Queens Park Rangers.
Wood, 24, who has made 189 appearances for the Owls in six years was placed on the transfer list after refusing to sign a new deal at Hillsborough.
Reds boss Mark Robins spoke with his Wednesday counterpart Brian Laws yesterday but Wood flatly turned down any hope of a move.
It is now expected the defender will move to Loftus Road where manager Jim Magilton has been tracking the Hillsborough Academy graduate since he was in charge of Ipswich.

Going on loan to Coventry apparently, then in January he is going for 800k. Id be happy at that seeing as he is worth a quarter of that.

Re: Richard Wood
Wednesday accepted a bid today, believed to be £500,000.

It's also encouraging that BL seems sure that he will see some of the money, because he doesn't need telling that a striker is badly needed.

Wednesday accept offer for Wood
Sheffield Wednesday have given permission for Richard Wood to talk to another Championship club after accepting an offer for the defender.
Coventry City are the favourites to sign the transfer-listed 24-year-old in a deal that would be worth about £500,000 in January.
Owls manager Brian Laws expects Wood to leave the club in the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Laws has confirmed that he would like to use the proceeds of any player sales to bring in a new striker.

Very good news if true, 500k is a very nice amount and should fund a decent striker.

Wood leaves for Coventry
http://www.swfc.co.uk/page/News/0,,10304~1878922,00.html
Sheffield Wednesday Football Club can confirm that defender Richard Wood has left the club to join Coventry City on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in January 2010.
The 24-year-old centre half will join Chris Coleman's team permanently for an agreed undisclosed transfer fee immediately following the conclusion of his loan to the Ricoh Arena club.
Wood, a product of Sheffield Wednesday's academy, played 189 times for the first team, scoring eight goals, and we would like to place on record our thanks to Richard for his long service and commitment to the team over a number of years.
Sheffield Wednesday manager, Brian Laws, said: "I would like to thank Richard Wood for his long service to this football club. Richard is a very good defender at Championship level and it is no secret that we tried very hard to keep him here by offering a long-term contract. Unfortunately Richard did not want to accept the terms we offered him and therefore we wish him all the best for his future career."
"The deal we have agreed with Coventry means that, while we could have commanded a greater fee if we had been given this position from Richard and his agent in the summer transfer window, we have secured some return for the club as opposed to the zero return we would have received when his contract runs out next summer. I will be able to utilise the freed up budget to strengthen our squad ahead of the busy schedule of festive fixtures."
