The Reds' current longest-serving player, Bobby Hassell, has been announced as Club Captain at Oakwell ahead of the new npower Championship campaign.

"It's a good honour for myself," said Bobby. "It's not going to be team Captain as such but Club Captain where I will go round and do various stuff for the lads, so just a link between the manager and the players.

"I've come a long way as a person and as a footballer. I'm 31 now so I'm a mature person and a senior pro. I think my job around the place is to be a good example to the young lads and speak to them when I can."

The right-back has made more than 250 appearances in a Red shirt, but doesn't feel a day older than when he made his debut at MK Dons in 2004.

"The body tends to feel a bit older now and again but mentally no not at all. I still like to have a joke with the lads and my kids keep me young at home."

And the former Mansfield man agrees with Hill's policy on not appointing a permanent team captain.

"It keeps people on their toes," he said. "I find if you're captain you expect to play week in, week out - when that shouldn't be the case.
