Gordon Brown Letter
I take it that everyone has heard about the letter that Gordon Brown sent to the mother of a recently killed Soldier, the letter was riddled with spelling mistakes and the name of the soldier was spelt wrong, whats peoples views on this has it been blown out of all proportion or are the complaints justified.
For me i'm not too sure, i am certainly no fan of Gordon Brown but he did go to the trouble to write a handwritten letter when it could just have been a computer written letter with a signature, you would think in either case that the letter would be checked prior to been posted, i think the papers are fuelling the debate but then again i suppose if my Son had just been killed in Afghanistan i might think different.

Re: Gordon Brown Letter
I heard this on the news last night and I am quite annoyed that it wasn't checked as personally I wouldn't want a letter from the Prime Minister if it had lots of spelling mistakes. However, there were hints that he may be dyslexic and no-one has diagnosed it. If this is the case then you cannot blame Gordon Brown as I myself am dyslexic and spelling mistakes are unfortunately part of it but in this instance there should be someone to check spelling and correct him if necessary.

Personally I think a little bit more than necessary has been made of the whole issue, but like you said Yorkie, I can understand why the lads mother would react like that and I don't blame her for being upset.

Its the times we live in i'm afraid, i wonder what her son would have wanted, like i said its easy to talk when it has not happened to us but he did go to the trouble of writing a hand written letter, i can understand her been angry about getting the name wrong ,the other spelling mistakes well does it really matter, if she thought he was just going through the motions then that is why she probably feels like she does, for me i actually think he is genuine on this and was trying to do what was best and as i said i really am not a fan of Gordon Brown , if it had been me i would not have gone to the papers and dragged my dead son who was only killed a month ago through the gutter press, does anyone actually think that the Sun Newspaper gives a damn anymore then Gordon Brown, its time to let it rest along with her son and be proud of what he did for his Queen and Country.

Good posts Yorkie and nightmare, I personally can't stand the man either but he was trying his best and this should now be left to rest in peace like the poor lad.

I'm another one who doesn't care for Gordon Brown, but the reaction to this story seems a little over the top for me. His actions were well intended, if a little clumsy. Not really anything more to it than that.
Besides, the man will be irrelevant in about 6 months time. Can't we let him go quietly?
