Billy and Twitter
Ex-Rovers striker Billy Sharp has been the victim of an attack on Twitter which taunted him over the death of his infant son, Luey Jacob Sharp, who died in November, just two days after being born.
Southampton FC, Sharp's new club, issued a statement which read: “Southampton FC was disgusted to learn of the vile and infantile abuse. As a result we have instructed Hampshire Police to investigate the matter.”
Someone posting under the name of @chrisDRFCBoyd sent a series of posts, which understandably caused uproar on the site, which has led to the comments being reported and the user's account being deleted.
The incident highlights just how easy it is for the public to contact those in the public eye, and how the ease with which the mask of anonymity can allow people to give callous feedback.

I really hope that the person responsible is not a Rovers supporter after all Billy has done for this club i would be shocked and ashamed...hopefully the police will find him and lets find out who he is...its reasons like this that i believe players should not use twitter etc..there are far too many arseholes out there...

I hope they track him down and IF he's one of our own the club should issue a life-long ban.

Fair point but no-one was saying that when literally thousands of people, from all over the country, used it to express their wishes towards Billy and Jade and also to publicise links to donate to the hospice and charity
Its always going to have its downside. For what its worth and this is no criticism of Billy I think he handled it wrongly by even replying, he should have ignored him and immediately got onto Twitter or the police so they could have attempted to trace him before he deleted the account. I see someone has said apparently it was a Rovers fan because previous tweets are about Rovers - if thats the case then someone must have followed him to see the tweets and therefore has an idea of who he is
Funny it happened after the West Ham game though - if the person was so angry towards Billy you wouldn't have thought it would take them a fortnight to say anything?
