D day for Billy Empty Re: D day for Billy

Post by yorkie64red Tue 22 Jun - 4:05:03

This week could turn out to be an interesting week for Billy Sharp, with three clubs - Doncaster Rovers, Burnley and Leeds United, reported to be locked in a battle for the Sheffield United' striker's signature.
According to press reports over the weekend, Burnley are said to be the favourites for his signature, with a transfer fee of up to £1.5 million being mentioned in some circles. Burnley are, of course, helped by the substantial 'parachute payment' they receive after their relegation from the Premier League. Sharps' former boss Brian Laws is in charge at Turf Moor, and Sharp could also be tempted if reports of his former strike partner Andy Keogh being Burnley bound turn out to have substance.
However, Rovers still have a good chance of success, with Sharp going on record a number of times to say how much he enjoyed last season with the club, and was clearly impressed by the faith shown in him by Sean O'Driscoll and John Ryan.
Leeds' chance of signing him may depend on other transfer activity at Elland Road, with Tresor Kandol set to leave Leeds for Scunthorpe if Sharp were to join.

Oh dear.

Burnley are in talks with Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp about a move to Turf Moor, skysports.com understands.

Sharp's future at United has been the subject of speculation for some time with the player spending all last season on loan at Doncaster.

Doncaster have expressed an interest in making Sharp's move permanent, but Burnley are hoping to beat their Championship rivals to the 24-year-old's signature.

Burnley are believed to have had a bid accepted for the former Scunthorpe man and Sharp is now locked in talks with the Clarets.

Turf Moor boss Brian Laws is keen to bolster his attacking options after losing Steven Fletcher to Wolves and sees Sharp, who he worked with during his time in charge of Scunthorpe, as a key addition to his rebuilding plans for next season

I think he's coming here , do you think Nike would 'hook up' with a team if they didn't think they were on the up and could prove it.
The deal is for 3 years and they would expect to see (after lengthy negotiations) evidence that their investment would give a healthy return.

The deal is for 3 years and they would expect to see (after lengthy negotiations) evidence that their investment would give a healthy return.

The club pays a manufacturer aka Nike to make their kits, its the sponser that pays the club for the privelige and advertisement space to be on the kit.

Nike make a couple of lower league teams kits and some sunday league clubs. They don't care what league you are in if you're paying them to manufacture kits, shorts etc.

In todays star

DONCASTER chairman John Ryan remains optimistic about signing Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp.

Rovers had a club-record bid - thought to be in the region of £1 million - turned down by their South Yorkshire rivals last month.

But they continue to think they are the team that can really get the best out of the forward.

Burnley have also made an inquiry about Sharp yet Ryan believes the 24-year-old could still be at the Keepmoat Stadium next season.

"We are hopeful we can do a deal for Billy Sharp and we think that we are the ideal team for him," Ryan said.

Rovers have made no secret of the fact that Sharp, who played much of last season on loan at the club, is their No 1 summer target.

Rovers' fans are desperate for favourable news on Sharp, who is also interesting Leeds United. "Billy was a vital cog in our team last season and without his goals we would have struggled," said Supporters' Club spokesman Paul Mayfield.

"He was worshipped like a God by the fans and he enjoyed his time with us. We may not be able to meet his financial needs. But we tick all the boxes for his footballing needs. The fans would be very disappointed if Billy did go to either Burnley or Leeds.

"Burnley have got the comfort of the parachute payment after being relegated from the Premier League last season which doesn't allow clubs like Rovers to compete on a level playing field."

He added: "Were we to sign Billy, and I've still got a gut feeling that we will, it would go a long way to appeasing the fans. The fact that we have only made one permanent signing so far (George Friend) has got people wondering what is in store for the forthcoming season."

Mayfield says he has sympathy for the club in their efforts to recruit players.

"The money being asked by some we are chasing is ludicrous. It makes you wonder if they're in touch with reality."

Good old BBC - never knowingly right.................

Quote from gossip section:

Burnley hope to tie up a £1m deal for Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp but Leeds United and Doncaster United will crank up their interest in the 24-year-old.

Must be our sister team....!!!!

He is stopping at Sufc.

Sheffield United
BILLY Sharp is staying at Sheffield United after rejecting the opportunity to join Burnley.
The striker, who scored 15 goals during a prolific spell on loan at Doncaster Rovers earlier this year, seemed destined to leave Bramall Lane when it emerged the Lancashire club were prepared to pay more than £1m to secure his services.

But, having spent the weekend mulling over his future, The Star can reveal that Sharp informed United last night that he wants to have "one more shot" at forcing himself into manager Kevin Blackwell's starting eleven.

Despite receiving what was described as a "very lucrative offer" from Brian Laws' side, sources close to the player have revealed he still harbours ambitions to steer the club he supports into the Premier League.

"Everyone knows what Sheffield United means to Billy," one said. "He wants to give it one more go, have one more shot at staying there.

"Burnley's proposal was worth a lot of money but Billy, after thinking things through, just had a gut feeling that he wanted to try and see things through here. He didn't want to go and then regret it later because he's not only a United player. He's a fan too."

As well as dealing a major blow to Burnley's plans in the transfer market, Sharp's decision will come as a major disappointment to both Rovers and Leeds who had also been monitoring his situation closely.

Indeed, this newspaper understands that Laws, Blackwell's counterpart at Turf Moor, expected to confirm his capture later this week after having an undisclosed bid accepted by United's board of directors.

Sharp, who returned to South Yorkshire from Scunthorpe in 2007, has 12 months remaining on his present contract.

Meanwhile, United have ruled out the possibility of signing Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew. The former Celtic full-back is now expected to head back to Parkhead after turning down a new deal at Pittodrie.

"We couldn't agree terms, so we move on," said Blackwell

Now here is the big question...........

Is Kevin Blackwell going to back down, wipe the slate clean with a player he doesn't get on with and change his mind in regards to playing Billy, a player he has shunned for 2 seasons and deemed surplus to requirements on at least 1 occasion?

If he does then thats a severe case of "egg on his face" and rather humiliating in my book.

I heard a whisper that this has been done to force blackwells hand into accepting a smaller bid because he wont risk the humiliation of a complete 180 degree turnaround in regards to Billy, but who knows?
