Rovers losses
Doncaster Rovers made a loss of £3.3 million last year as the cost of their poor final season in the Championship was reported in the club's accounts yesterday.
The club's wages bill rose by £1.6 million over the previous year - a little surprising since the "Willie McKay experiment" was supposed to have brought players in very cheaply as Rovers battled against relegation. Staff costs rose to £9.4 million (up from £7.6 million) - but turnover fell from £8.96 million to £8.3 million, reflecting the dwindling level of support that the club attracted.
New Chief Executive Gavin Baldwin has a business model that will see the club break even over time, but warned that the club will again make a loss this season, with a reduction of £4.5 million in their turnover expected.
He told the Doncaster Free Press: “Relegation from the Championship to League One required the shareholders and management to assess the structure and governance operating within the club. We have implemented many changes on and off the field in order to make the club stronger. We are striving for the sustainable business model we feel should underpin our activities moving forward."
“An example of the governance that we have put in place is the implementation of strict parameters in respect of player salaries. These will ensure we are able choose the level of our squad budget in future years as opposed to contractual commitments dictating our level of expenditure.”
The situation should be improved this coming year with an expected £200,000 profit from running the Keepmoat Stadium.

Re: Rovers losses
Very interesting. Increased payroll last season figures. We and the club were taken for mugs........an expensive lesson.
