Yorkshire Accent
Where would you say you would find the strongest Yorkshire accent, in this area of the West Riding i would say it has to go to Barnsley maybe to Barnsley people we seem to talk with a strong accent, it is strange how places which are quite close can sound so different, i come from Goole Originally and to say it is only a 10 minuite drive away from Thorne you can tell the difference, i would imagine to get what you would think of as a traditional Yorkshire accent with the Dialect you would have to go to the North Riding and to the Villages of the North York Moors / Yorkshire Dales..

Re: Yorkshire Accent
Some people in Halifax have a really broad accent to me yet others hardly seem to have one at all.

Re: Yorkshire Accent
I would say the hull accent sounds quite different to a lot of places close by as well. Just go over the bridge to lincolnshire and they sound completely different to us.

But that is what Yorkshire people used to talk like Jack, the accent seems to have got very Diluted nowadays , i actually do like to hear it and in Barnsley it is still very strongley spoken, i work with a couple of Tykes and quite a few people in chesterfield really struggle to understand them when engaged in conversation with some of the local Dialect thrown in for good measure.

Around Guisborough and East Cleveland. The way Middlesbrough people spoke before 1830's when the steel works opened.

I love talking to people who aren't from Yorkshire. Even though originally I'm from down south I have gained quite a yorkshire accent so most people can't understand me. It's really good fun talking to people and watching their expressions as they try to work out what you're actually saying.

Re: Yorkshire Accent
Barnsley is the most broad.
Hull is the Worst by a long way.
Wakefield is the best, got a good balance

Re: Yorkshire Accent
Barnsley and Wakefield areas seem quite strong.
I talk to folk from all over the country everyday in my job and love it when its a tyke. Some of the women do have very strong accents as well.
Rather listen to a Tyke than a manc or a whinging scouse.

Barnsley and Leeds sound very broad to me.
The rest of us in South Yorkshire tend to be quite low key. You can usually tell if someone's from either South Yorkshire (minus Barnsley) or the rest of Yorkshire.
And yes, any part of Yorkshire is better than those Scousers.
