Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is making a shock move to snap up Ivory Coast centre half Steve Gohouri from German side Borussia Munchengladbach.
Gohouri has already had talks with Barnsley about joining them on a free transfer after falling out with the Bundesliga outfit, but he flew in to meet Latics last night.
The powerful African, who still dreams of making the World Cup squad despite problems at club level, could give Martinez the extra cover he wants on his limited budget.
Gohouri was due to join Barnsley until a dispute about payments in the deal, leaving the way open for Wigan to open negotiations with the giant 28-year-old

Rather sign fo't tarn than a sinking egg chasing town, club like wigan.
