How Many Fans

I can't find the link at the moment but somewhere Lee Strafford has claimed that there are 900,000 Wednesday fans, he states there are 400.000 in Sheffield and the rest are spread throughout the world, before i choke how many fans does everyone think there are for these relevant clubs, for Doncaster i would put it at no more then 30,000, i do however think there is a difference in a fan and a supporter.

Since the population of Sheffield is 630,000, 400,000 of them being Wednesdayites sounds pretty accurate to me. And a further 500,000 around the world seems very likely. This very accurate and confirmed statistic further emphasises the size of our club, especially compared to you little clubs in the rest of South Yorkshire. We'll be the biggest club in the world before you know it.

The world, don't do yourself down Wednesday, i'm sure its the Universe, and there are plenty of little green men who having visited our planet have become hooked on the whole wednesday expierience. lol!

Lee Strafford is trying hard to make Sheffield Wednesday attractive to American investors. It's hardly surprising that he's somewhat embellishing when it comes to the club's size.

Doncaster 9 to 13'000
Wednesday 18 to 26'000
United 18 to 26'000
Barnsley 13 to 15'000

Attendances at present suggest that Nightmare's numbers aren't too far off the mark. In national terms, Wednesday (in my opinion) does have a bigger following than any of the other clubs listed, but obviously they can't be attending every game, or no longer wish to do so. So I suppose it comes down to what you define a fan as.

There is most definitely a difference between a fan and a supporter. Anyone can be a fan but not many people these days are willing to put their money where their mouth is and actually support the club. My boyfriend however says they are the same thing.
