Skysports.com understands Barnsley are hoping to sign Hull City midfielder Nathan Doyle on a permanent basis next month.

Doyle's loan spell at Oakwell is due to expire after this weekend's game at Crystal Palace, but Tykes boss Mark Robins is keen to keep the versatile performer.

The 22-year-old has made 10 appearances for Barnsley since his arrival in September and he has impressed during his time in South Yorkshire.
Barnsley are in talks with the Tigers in a bid to thrash out a deal to sign Doyle permanently when the transfer window reopens next month.

The KC Stadium outfit are believed to be ready to offload Doyle as they look to trim their squad and wage bill.

Its obvious Robins builds his team around 2 defensive minded central midfield players, and out of Doyle and Colace, I personally prefer him. That said, Im not totally convinced that they both need to play every time, against Scnuthorpe for example, we'd have got away with just one. Against Newcastle, I was very impressed with Halfredsson, and I'd like to see him get a run maybe alongside Doyle in the middle.

Overall, a more then decent squad addition.

Yep. Agree 100% mate. Colace has been shocking for the last 2 games and Defensive players are better when you dont notice them. You remember their mistakes, and Colace has had too many. Doyle over Colace. However if that dick off Tykesmad comes on here, he wont like it Smile

Doyle is a top class holding midfielder
his movement off the balls and his abilaty to brake down attacks just as there starting is outstanding
