Saunders surprised by lack of interest..
Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders says his hands are tied until he offloads some of those players still in contract at the club.
Saunders retained just twelve players from last season`s squad in the summer, with all twelve still under contract at the club.
The Rovers boss must move on some of the higher earners, as the club look to reduce their wage bill significantly.
Saunders has been told that he cannot add to his squad until some of the players under contract have moved on and the Rovers boss is surprised by the lack of interest in the players still at the club.
Speaking in the Doncaster Free Press, Saunders said, "I`m really surprised, but no one has been in for any of our lads, which means we`re still stuck."
Rovers have been back in training now for just over a week and they play their first pre-season friendly at Cleethorpes on Saturday.
Saunders has been able to bring in three players so far this summer with David Syers (Bradford City), David Cotterill (Swansea City) and Robbie Blake (Bolton Wanderers) all joining the club.
With none of the released players training with the club in pre-season, Saunders admits it is difficult preparing the side for the new season. "We only had 15 lads in on Friday which isn`t ideal because you want to be hitting the ground running.
"We`ve had some good sessions but it`s difficult because you don`t know who`s going to be here and who isn`t when the season starts.
"So far we`ve got David Cotterill, Robbie Blake and David Syers in and that`s pleasing.
"But we desperately need another four or five lads to be anywhere near ready for the start of the season," added Saunders.
Saunders also added that there would be a number of trialists playing in the games in pre-season.
After the game with Cleethorpes on Saturday, they return to the area for a game with Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Re: Saunders surprised by lack of interest..
I'm not, why should another club come in and pay wages before they need to o.
weve made our position quite clear.
DS is just trying to force the issue by saying there is a cut off when offers won't be accepted. I bet they will be.....about a week or fortnight before the sfart of tbe season

I remember him saying that our current players were not good enough and had a losing mentality and that he was bringing in quality world class players with the help of willie mckay to replace them

I must have missed those quotes last year then, managers criticise players all the time, sod did it quite a lot, only this year he openly criticised oster and dumbuya, but as its Saunders we all have massive over reaction just for a change.

He got a good reception yesterday when he came on and again when he scored, I know it was probably diehards yesterday and people have reservations (to say the least) but perhaps the tide is turning
